Zombie Match Defense is about as generic a name as you could think of. Thankfully, this is intentional. Developer Jake Sones, whose AAA experience includes Diablo III, was challenged by a friend to make a game that contains all of the App Store's most overused tropes.

The result is a combination of Plants vs Zombies and match-three puzzler. A column of healthy humans sits on the left of the screen, and zombies randomly make their way along the rows connected to them, moving one square with each match.

Making a line behind a zombie causes it to lurch back one square, and making a line containing a zombie kills it. Certain matches also unlock weapons – the number and range available grow over the course of the game – which you can deploy at will for an easy kill.

Yes, Zombie Match Defense is full of overused tropes. But it still manages to be original, as well as polished, humorous, and accessible.

For a chance to win thousands of dollars of advertising and to see your game in an article like this one, register now for the Big Indie Pitch at Gamescom and the Very Big Indie Pitch at PGC Helsinki.
Golf Battle(Mod Menu)The Trees and the Axe

Updated 26th October, 11:36 AM: Almost a week after its 0.16 Big Boss Update went live on Android and Windows 10, Minecraft: Pocket Edition's huge update has finally released on iOS.

iOS is still in review, they decided to not expedite our review (which they can!) so it will take the normal time it takes to review.— Tommaso Checchi (@_tomcc) October 25, 2016 According to Tommaso Checchi, the update got stuck in Apple's review and it missed out on getting expedited for some reason, though it was no one's fault.

The main point is that it's here, it's ready, it's time to make magic happen so let's forget about the delay and get on with the play(ing).

Grab the game on the App Store if you haven't got it already.

It's that day at last, Minecraft lovers, as Pocket Edition/Windows 10's Big Boss Update is finally getting released today after a bit of a Creeper catastrophe earlier in the week.

We all know what's coming: the Wither and the Elder Guardian are ready to rock your world (and probably hurt you a little), but I admit I totally overlooked that we were also getting Add-Ons in this update.

If you didn't read one of my past posts, the Add-Ons are a pretty sweet deal. They essentially change the game, allowing you to alter the size of enemies and allies, change their behaviours, and download crazy new scenarios such as the Alien Invasion one from this year's E3.

So yeah, back to the Big Bosses, update 0.16 also brings the Ocean Monuments with it and all of the underwater inhabitants that reside there. For more information check out Mojang's post here – because actually their posts are always entertaining – and get excited.

If you haven't bought the game already grab it on the App Store for £4.99/$6.99 or on Google Play for a similar price.

`Anne, Miss Cornelia is enjoying herself hugely. You know she is.'
Nintendo had a financial results briefing today that revealed more about its plans for smartphone games in collaboration with DeNA.

During the briefing, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said that Nintendo plans to have approximately five smartphone titles out by the end of the next fiscal year, which is March 2017.

"You may think it is a small number, but when we aim to make each title a hit, and because we want to thoroughly operate every one of them for a significant amount of time after their releases, this is not a small number at all and should demonstrate our serious commitment to the smart device business," Iwata said.

He added that Nintendo is looking to "entertain hundreds of millions of people all around the world" with its smartphone games. And that the hope is that they will become "one of the pillars of Nintendo's revenue structure."

Siliconera also digs up a report by Japanese site Sankei that reveals that Iwata wanted to assure everyone how serious he was about Nintendo's commitment to smartphone games.

To illustrate this, he mentioned that the producer of the Mario Kart series is working on its smartphone titles.

Iwata didn't give this producer a name, but as Siliconera notes, "it seems likely that he’s referring to Hideki Konno, who was the producer for Mario Kart 8, Mario Kart 7, and has been involved with the series since its early days."
